TO OUR DEAR VOLUNTEERS

We know that volunteering a portion of our time is something we should do. There are reminders all around us that our help is needed. Other people will significantly benefit from any time we contribute. You will get more out of your volunteer experience than you put into it. Volunteering is an act of mutual exchange between individuals or groups who offer their time, work, and energy in order to support both a project of public utility, and a hosting community which offer to volunteers a teacher and testing ground. Today, the voluntary approach which enable intercultural exchange, intergenerational deregulation and active solidarity, is the core of our action.

An international work camp consists of volunteers from different races, nationalities and other backgrounds although local volunteers are usually in the majority; the latter are made up of two groups namely SAVWA members and local community members.

On an international work camp people coming from all backgrounds meet each over. These project will gather 8 to 15 people from different nationalities. All volunteers will have to organize their daily life according to local possibilities and goals to achieve. The work is accessible to all and it doesn’t require particular skills. For all its duration, the voluntary approach is the basis of the project success. Time spent at work is about 30 hours per week. On work camp we encourage exchange, meeting, and implementation of concrete action which are useful for local projects.

What you need to have:

  • Sleeping-bag

  • Good working shoes, gloves and clothes

  • Rain clothes and warm clothes

  • Instruments, games, recepies, pictures, flag from your country.

  • We will offer you a place to put objects of value, but if you do not need them please do not take them with you. You are fully responsible for all your belongings.

Food and Accommodation

This is normally provided for the duration of the project. Most of our projects are self-catering (unless it is stated otherwise) and sufficient funds are provided for the group to buy and cook food together as a family. Please bring with you traditional recipes that do not require particularly special ingredients. Accommodation is usually in classrooms, halls or tents but this is known before hand.

Who are the other volunteers?

This is not known until you arrive, each project is made up of people of various nationalities, ages and backgrounds. On every project there is a camp leader usually chosen and trained by us. The leader depends on the full participation of each volunteer, so it is the whole group’s responsibility to ensure that the project is a success.
